I don't often share stories on my blog about school even though I often have MANY I think you might appreciate! However, sometimes things happen at school not directly related to one student. For example, 2 years ago, a hawk flew into my classroom while chasing another bird. Now, mind you, we often have birds fly in our rooms...strange, yes, but it happens more often than you might imagine! Also, please keep in mind that I HATE birds. Anyway, the hawk flew in...I made my students basically duck and cover and we ALL (including myself) crawled out of the classroom before it picked up one of my students with it's sharp claws!
Well, recently we've had another problem. Last Wednesday, while we were out at recess, a little girl came up to me with her hand extended saying, "Look teacher, I found a baby caterpillar." I look in her hand to see a small white worm crawling around...not a caterpiller, a maggot!!!!!! Stunned, I quickly told her to drop it, go wash her hands and NOT touch those again...as calmly as I could! I immediately killed the maggot and since then, we have discovered MORE of them near the tables where the kids eat! It is SO disgusting and the janitor is all over it trying to get them all killed but wow! I have NEVER been so disgusted in my life! I'm sorry if you are all thoroughly grossed out as well now but I just had to share the sweet innocence my students have! A baby caterpillar...

It wasn't maggots...it was a meal worm! :)
We get lots of squirming magots in our outside trash can in the summertime. They are BEYOND NASTY.
