I'm so confused by our child! I know that I'm not supposed to understand her but still...let me tell you about tonight. First off...we had a great day. Ella and I went to a friend's uncle's beach house and hung out there for the day. She was great...really mellow and just a wonderful girl. We got home, she ate...a good feeding! Then Eric and I went to Costco with her and and got home just in time for her to eat again...she was crying when we got home (obviously hungry I assumed!) She ate 10 minutes on one side and then screamed bloody murder when I tried to get her to go on the other side. Thinking she maybe needed to burp or get rid of gas, I tried to calm her down on my shoulder...didn't work. Eric tried to calm her down...didn't work. I tried to feed her again...more screaming!!! Finally, we calmed her down, gave her a bath which she likes, and I didn't dare try to give her more food. Now she's sleeping and I have to wake her in an hour for her final feeding before bed and I'm petrified she's going to scream again! Has anyone had this problem? Do I need to go longer between feedings? Does this sound like a gas issue? Why would she scream if she was just full? Can't she just say "No thanks, mom...that's enough!" It's just really bad and this isn't the first time this has happened! We've tried gripe water and gas drops which do help for a while but I just don't understand! I'd love some advice from other moms...it kinda freaks me out when she's like this! It's like she goes from zero to 60 in 2 seconds and it's just weird!
OK...enough about the cranky-ness! Here are a couple cute pictures from the last couple days! She's fitting into all her 0-3 month clothes now and it's so fun to dress her every day! People have been so generous with gifts and I feel like she has the best wardrobe in town! The generosity of people constantly amazes me. We got meals for 2 weeks after Ella was born and we still have friends and people from church call to bring something over! We just got a lasagna last week! SO KIND! AND how can I almost forget...Ella blessed us with her first smile on Sunday morning! We both got to see it and it was SOOOOO cute! She's given us many more but I never seem to have the camera handy! I'll try to get one soon! Anyway...here are some pictures!
Friends at the beach today...the other baby is Ella's friend Lucas

When we got home from Costco, our friends and neighbors were just coming back from a walk and their little girl, Emily, was in the same outfit as Ella!!! We couldn't resist a quick photo shoot!
This one cracks me up...Ella is hungry and crying as mom is trying to take a couple more pictures and Emily is looking at her like "Why are you crying...it's not so bad!"

Hmmmm...I'm guessing its just : "i'm a baby and sometimes I cry and don't know why so you aren't going to know why either..." The hard thing is not knowing - but in the first 7 weeks or so Violet did that a lot and we NEVER knew. We always did as you are doing - tried burping, Gripe water, pacifier, sling, swing, car rides, etc. ANYTHING!! She grew out of it and for that I am SO thankful! I know you guys will get to that point too. Soon. :-)
I agree with what Carrie said. Caden cried a lot more randomly and "for no reason" (other than thats what babies do!) when we was less than 2 months. Now, he's more "intentional" about his crying. haha.
The other thing it might be is that she might just be tired. Sometimes Caden would eat a little bit like that and then get livid when I tried to finish the feeding. Turns out he just was tired all along and I had to kind of work at getting him to go to sleep because he was just mad because he didn't know what he wanted cuz he's so tired.
Like Carrie said, it gets better as they get a little older. Hang in there! I can't wait to meet her!
Does she ever have reflux? There is something called silent reflux too.
That would only make sense if she is only screaming when you try to feed her. If it is other random times, Madyson did that when she was tiny and grew out of it pretty quickly.
Hey Jen-
Sorry for the delay here! I just wanted to second what Jen (R) said... I think it is common for us mommies to assume our babies are hungry when they are really just tired. And they get pissed when we misread that cue! A good way to tell is to make sure each feeding is a "full feeding", then most babies can go 2.5 - 3 hours without another feeding (at her age). If she gets fussy and you've fed her less than 2 hours ago, she is probably just tired. But that's when we often try to feed our babies and they are like "HEY, just give me a bed and get this boob out of my face!" Anyway, just another idea to add to the mix. It DOES get easier! She is so cute and that makes it all worth it, huh?
PS: I agree with you about baby acne too. Both my kids got it and I think it is God's WORST idea. Thankfully it doesn't last long!
